One Sofa Three Ways Header

Sometimes, it can be difficult to picture how that sofa you love the comfort of can fit your style preferences and the style of the other pieces in your home. While some pieces are not as versatile as others, many, if not most, pieces can completely change look and feel based on what you pair it with!

To show how this can be done, we’ve taken one sofa and given it three different looks.

Grey Rolled Arm Sofa
Look One: Classic Condo

Look One: Classic Condo

For this first look, we decided to keep the same toss cushions we have on the sofa in our showrooms. The pattern on the cushions paired with the rolled arm of the condo sofa gives it more of a classic feel.

We leaned into the classic feel with the lines/shapes in the other pieces. The mirror, lamps and the base of the tables all reflect the curve you see in the arm of the sofa and pattern of the toss cushions.

We also paid close attention to the colours and tones that we used. All the colour tones in this look are soft and more muted. Aside from neutrals, the only colour we included was blue, which was pulled from the toss cushion fabric.

You will also notice that we only used silver metals, some of which have more of a worn look than others. The silver lends itself to the classic feel and isn't too imposing.

Look Two: Coastal Serenity

This second look features a coastal style, but without using any blues or other vibrant colours. It is perfect for a small and serene cottage setting.

The first piece we chose for this, after the condo sofa, was the artwork. The rest of the pieces were chosen based on it. One of the elements taken from it was to soft sage green colour. We added more of this colour in with accessories, including the toss cushions, plants, and vases. There's even a hint of green in the area rug.

We brought in more of the coastal cottage element with worn woods, white-tones, plants and with the seahorse table décor. This also ties in well with the feel the dock and Adirondack chairs in the artwork have.

This vignette also features a variety of lines. There are straight lines in the area rug, artwork and even in the drawers to the tables, but we also tied in the curve in the rolled arm of the sofa with the lines on the table legs, the lamp and the seahorses.

Look Two: Coastal Serenity
Look Three: Colourful Contemporary

Look Three: Colourful Contemporary

This look is more vibrant, and perfect for a millennial who just bought their first home. We wanted to have fun with this look, by adding lots of colour and other fun accessories.

We started with the washable area rug. This rug is fun and features multiple colours including oranges, blues and teals. Wanting to continue the colour in the artwork, we found this big and bold piece, which has all the colours from the rug and more!

Every accessory we added to this look pulls from the colours in the art and rug, but they are also fun and whimsical. Take a look at the cat on the end table and the "Love" décor in front of the vibrant yellow tulips.

The curved lines in the artwork and on the sofa arms are mirrored in the youthful tables and some of the décor pieces. You will also notice the the diamond shapes in the area rug are mirrored in the pattern on the yellow toss cushion.

Why All These Work

Are you wondering how all these different styles can work with this one sofa? There are a few ways we accomplished this:

  • Mirroring the curved lines in the arms of the sofa in other pieces, including the artwork and tables

  • The fabric of the toss cushions helped tie everything together

  • Since we started with a neutral grey sofa, we chose the colours to feature based on other items we loved

  • Finding accessories that are true to the style we want
