One Sofa, Three Ways

Sometimes, it can be difficult to picture how that sofa you love the comfort of can fit your style preferences and the style of the other pieces in your home. While some pieces are not as versatile as others, many, if not most, pieces can completely change look and feel based on what you pair it with!

To show how this can be done, we’ve taken one sofa and given it three different looks.

Orange Sectional
Look One: Floral Rustic

Look One: Floral Rustic

This look is soft and feminine with the use of florals in the wall art, toss cushions, table plant and the area rug. All the floral elements feature the same colours, or colour tones, helping to ensure that they don't overwhelm the space or compete with each other. The colours also tie in well with the colour of the sectional.

To keep with the soft and feminine feel, we used soft materials in the other toss cushions, and also used rounded shapes in all the tables and accessories.

The two pieces of wall art on either end were two of the first things we chose to go with this sectional for this look. While they tie in well with the soft and floral elements, they also have rustic touches. To make the look cohesive, we added a few more rustic elements, including the candle holders, table lamp and clock.

Look Two: Industrial Modern

For this second look, we decided to go for something with more contrast and bold lines. This is why we chose to go with an Industrial Modern look.

The first items we chose to pair with the sectional for this look were the two different toss cushions. The solid colour ones add depth and contrast to the sectional, while the patterned toss cushions add the bold lines we wanted to incorporate.

We chose the wall art to play into the lines of the one pair of toss cushions. The wall art also has brown tones, which tie well into the warm colour of the sectional. We also wanted to use a warm colour somewhere else in the look, which is why we chose the area rug that we did, as well as some of the table top accessories.

The rest of the pieces are black, to tie into the toss cushions and art. Many of these pieces also have bold lines or elements of contrast.

Look Two: Industrial Modern
Look Three: Millennial Contemporary

Look Three: Millennial Contemporary

This last look is fun and bright, perfect for millennials, and more, who like this contemporary look.

When we saw these mirrors, we knew we wanted to include them in this look. The wavy, rounded edges, and the gold frames are both fun and bright. We wanted to tie the gold metal throughout the look, which we did with some of the table top accessories and the tables.

Another colour that is frequent throughout the look is white. Along with the marble table tops and the lamps, any of the table top accessories that aren't gold or orange, are white! The other colour we are featuring in this look is yellow. Yellow, and the orange of the sectional, are both in the area rug, creating a sense of cohesion.

To help achieve this fun look and tie everything together, when we were looking for accessories, we looked for ones that had a sense of whimsy and had lines that were similar to the lines in the other pieces already chosen.

Why All These Work

Are you wondering how all these different styles can work with this one sofa? There are a few ways we accomplished this:

  • Not shying away from the colour of the sectional, but rather, leaning into it and letting it inspire other choices

  • Using similar lines in multiple pieces within each look

  • Picking pieces that feature the colour of the sectional and the other colours we want to include in the look

  • Using accessories to help tie different elements together
