2022 Colours of the Year

Sometimes, it can be difficult to picture how that sofa you love the comfort of can fit your style preferences and the style of the other pieces in your home. While some pieces are not as versatile as others, many, if not most, pieces can completely change look and feel based on what you pair it with!

To show how this can be done, we’ve taken one sofa and given it three different looks.

White Sofa
Look One: Industrial Loft

Look One: Industrial Loft

When we first looked at this sofa, we initially gravitated toward an industrial style, largely due to the cool metal legs it has. For this look, we decided to lean into that.

Pulling from the legs, we decided to add in some metal and black elements. This includes the large-scale black clock, the accessories on the end table and the end table itself. While the coffee table isn’t metal, we chose one that was black to draw from all the black metal elements. The round shape also mimics the shape of the end table.

We also decided to stick to a minimal colour scheme, which is often found in a true industrial look. Pretty much every piece is in the greyscale colour scheme, with some exceptions with some brown tones. Since the sofa has a beautiful wood base, these brown tones fit in perfectly.

Look Two: Eclectic Natural

For this second look, we wanted to pull in some colour. The colour we used was actually inspired by the artwork. Sometimes accessories can be the best pieces to pull inspiration from. Many times, the main item is simpler and more flexible in terms of what it can be paired with, so as long as the piece you choose goes well with the main item, it can be a great base piece to draw inspiration from.

This art has a few colours in it but focuses more on orange and blue tones. To mirror this, we pulled in accessories that had one or both of these tones, including the bases, rug and even the try on the coffee table.

The rug, art and occasional tables also pull out the warm tones that are in the sofa, making it warm and inviting, and also cohesive. The natural texture of the wood on the sofa is also mirrored in many of these pieces.

Look Two: Eclectic Natural
Look Three: Rustic Farmhouse

Look Three: Rustic Farmhouse

For this last look, we decided to go with a rustic style. One of the ways we achieved this was by using natural live edge woods, which mimic the wood on the base of the sofa. Both the coffee and end tables are live edge wood pieces, but we also have wood in some of the accessories, including the milk jug holder on the end table.

We also brought in many rustic style metal elements. These woods lean more rustic due to the warmer tone and texture of the metal.

To go along with and enhance these rustic elements, we decided to bring in more pieces that bring out the feeling of a rustic farmhouse. This includes the cowhide rug, which also mirrors the uneven shape of the live edge tables well. It also includes the artwork, which is literally showing a barn scene.

Why All These Work

Are you wondering how all these different styles can work with this one sofa? There are a few ways we accomplished this:

  • Pulling from elements in the sofa, such as the black metal legs and the wood base

  • Using artwork that inspired and enhanced the look

  • Finding table top accessories that complemented the other pieces

  • Not limiting the possibilities based on the style we gained from our initial look
