One Sofa, Three Ways

Sometimes, it can be difficult to picture how that sofa you love the comfort of can fit your style preferences and the style of the other pieces in your home. While some pieces are not as versatile as others, many, if not most, pieces can completely change look and feel based on what you pair it with!

To show how this can be done, we’ve taken one sofa and given it three different looks.

Green Leather Sofa
Look One: Feminine Contemporary

Look One: Feminine Contemporary

This look leans into the contemporary style of the sofa, but adds a feminine flair with hints of pink and curved lines.

The arms of this sofa feature a natural curve, which is reflected in many of the other pieces in this look, including the tables, lamps, rug and artwork.

The artwork has the same green as the sofa in it, but also adds that feminine touch with the pink. We tied in the pink in the artwork by bringing in some pink toss cushions as well.

The light tones of all the accessories help tie in the rug, and art and help to soften the look of the sofa. That, along with the soft shag of the rug, also help add that feminine touch.

Look Two: Urban Midcentury

For this second look, we decided to go for something a bit more urban that would fit in perfectly in a downtown loft.

Similarly to look one, we tied in the curves of the sofa arms with curves in the tables, clock, floor lamp and even the pattern in the rug.

For this vignette, we didn't add any more colours. Aside from the green in the sofa and area rug, we stuck with neutrals, including black and gold. Sticking with these colours lends to the urban feel of this look.

One fun feature we added to this vignette is the faces! There are faces in the toss cushions, as well as on the planter.

Look Two: Urban Midcentury
Look Three: Natural Farmhouse

Look Three: Natural Farmhouse

For this final look, we wanted to stick with a more natural feel while also adding in a farmhouse flair.

We started by adding the art, which has hints of yellows and oranges in it, as well as shades of brown. We stuck to these colours when picking the rest of the accessories and really brought out the colours with the toss cushions and the area rug.

Like the other two looks, we reflected the natural curve of the sofa arms in other pieces, including the tables, lamp and planter.

We also wanted to add in some natural textures to this look. You will see this in the wood texture of the tables, the basket weave of the planter and the soft texture of the off-white toss cushions and the throw.

Why All These Work

Are you wondering how all these different styles can work with this one sofa? There are a few ways we accomplished this:

  • Tying in the natural curve of the sofa's arms with other pieces

  • Playing into the green of the sofa with other greens

  • Start by adding one piece that helps tie in all the others

  • Add colours and textures that play into the style you want to achieve
